Bill,

Got your package and this reader is using the Japanese alphabet as contained in
the original message witch is grade 1 English Braille. I forget the technical
term for this alphabet. She is very happy with my first draft which much to my
surprise coincides with the suggestions I have received. You are right the
audience for whom we are translating is question one.

I have never transcribed any lyrics in Japanese. But it is important to
know for whom the transcription is being made. For example, if we are
transcribing lyrics in Spanish for an American reader (that is, English
speaker) of braille, we would use a generic indicator of dot 4 to show
accented letters. If we were transcribing for a Spanish-speaking reader of
braille, we would use the correct accented and special characters. For
example, the word adiós will be shown as:
adi@os
For an English-speaking reader but as
Adi+s
For a Spanish speaker. The first way uses the dot 4 generic indicator and
the second uses the accented form for the letter o (dots 3, 4, 6).

So, the question is, does the reader of this transcription usually read
braille in Japanese or in English or in some other language?

Hi Brett,

I've taken the liberty of copying this to Bill McCann at
Dancing Dots. He may well have some ideas, or contacts, who
can help.

George.
