I think a student would find exams stressful enough as it is without having to
remember:
A missing number in a circle, a square, an underscore, a dash - let's get
'Unified' on missing numbers - it doesn't matter to the end user what a print
version 'looks' like - all they require is the essential data/information.

Since the dot is neither a decimal point or period (fullstop), but merely
serves as a separation mechanism between the whole numbers that indicate the
number of electrons for each energy level, the electron configuration for
2.8.8.2 should be written as:

Yes, they are separate numbers, but if this convention for showing the electron
configuration is used in print, the translation to braille should follow suit.
It would not be confusing in my opinion.
Some conventions use commas to separate the energy levels, and others use
hyphens. (e.g., #b1h1h1band #b-#h-#h-#b)
When hyphens are used, the numeric indicator will be repeated before each
number since numeric mode is terminated by a hyphen
Note: Sometimes dates and telephone numbers use periods between numbers and the
numeric indicator is not repeated. So if we follow the UEB tenet that "a dot,
is a dot, is a dot" then we would transcribe as indicated.
If my interpretation is agreeable, I think that this may be as useful item to
add to the 16.4 in the Technical Guidelines in think.

Hi,
The UEB for Science gives an example where Electronic structure has the numbers
in print with commas and spaces and replicated in Braille accordingly.
Currently doing a Combined Science paper for Year 10 student and in the print
version it is (one of them) 2.8.8.2 - does the decimal point rule the
translation into Braille or should it be number sign, number, period, number
sign, number, period etc with no spaces? Or Number sign, number, period,
number, period, etc?
