My pairs harness has rings, but my single carts have wood singletrees that
require slots also.
I just got two pieces of granite (non-shiny) biothane about 8" long each and
folded them in half. Punch a slot through each doubled piece for your
singletree. Then open the biothane piece, slide one end through your ring on
the end of your trace and fold the piece in half again, then slide the new
slots on your singletree. I suppose you could make them whatever length you
want, bio or leather shouldn't matter, as long as they're strong enough.
Works for me!
Rachel

Now, I need the other way. My Zilco pairs harness is much nicer than my
shiny
biothane single harness and it will convert to single harness. The only
problem
is that the pairs harness has traces with rings on the end for my carriage,
but
my Meadowbrook needs slots. Anybody tried this kind of conversion? I can't
just put the rings over the pronged ends of the singletree, because they
fall
off if we're not in draft :) Maybe I could try a piece of leather with
slots in
both ends that would span the singletree on the outside of the rings?
