My 2 cents: True about battery-type GPS using batteries, but I find it 
better than the bike computer if you use multiple vehicles. For example, I 
drive both single and pair.  I most often use a wrist band type--simple GPS 
made by Garmen (Forerunner or Fore. . .something else are a couple models 
for running or hiking) that is rechargable. I get about 16 hrs before 
recharge.  It is like a big wrist watch; nothing else attached (like the 
Timex requires). Simple to use. Somewhere around $150. It changes bet. 
metric or US. Then, I don't worry about calibration nor changing vehicles. 
(I also use mine when running, trail riding, and hiking).
