Also the characteristics of the voice, how much voice--that is how loud the 
male voice and female voice are as affected by the built in characteristics or 
coloration of the mic.  If a male voice has more bass content, a condenser is 
going to give more proximity affect closer in, and have more over all perceived 
gain than a female higher thinner tampered voice.

  Remember, gain on the mike is inversely related to the square of the distance 
between source and mike, so if your female singer is not as close as you, this 
would explain the gain difference.
