Another option as mentioned by somebody else here would be to copy the
automation events from the first track and paste them over to the second
track.

Hmm - interesting. Guess I was right in that he ran into a bug. What about
the suggestion of cloning the track? The only thing I can see there is that
in order to get the automation to work, wouldn't you have to clone the
events? That would mean that he'd have to go back and delete the unwanted
stuff in that secondary track.
