Brandon:
If you don't have a control surface, it can be kind of hard to do the valume change in real time. What you can do instead is to do a snap record. You should set your valume at the beginning of the track, for example at -4. Then, after enabling your track for automation, you move to where you want to increase the valume, let's say, you move to measure 4. Without playing the track, you just make the change at measure for and then take a snap record with control-r I think. Then you go to where you want to change the valume back to the previous value and do the same thing. This is all done without playing the track.

On your other question, if you just want to insert a blank measure, you should select the track and move to where you want to do this. Then, press alt-I to go to the insert menue and select time-measures. There you can select the number of measures you want to insert.

Hope that helps.

I think I figured out the volume problem, although not sure if this is the ideal way. I hit play, do my first volume (lets say 4.0), then go to the point I want it to stop being 4.0, hit space, then type but don't hit enter on a new volume, (-2.0), hit space and then when I get to the part I want to switch hit inter really fast.
Is this the most affective way of changing volume?
Also, I'm reading through the manual, but don't see any place for punching without recording. How can I move a word from the middle of the track to the end of the track and replace the later word with the new word?
Thank you!

OK I read the part on the affects and whatnot for automation, but I can't figure out how to change the volume really fast. Is this possible? I tried hitting enter and changing it really fast, but it didn't work as fast as I wanted it.
Thanks,

Brandon Keith

Thank you!
I think I'll just use destructive as I don't have to much time to learn the huge section on automation in the next two days...

Also, I was wondering if there was any way to copy the beginning off a clip in one project and replace the beginning of another project with the copied piece. I have a song and I did really bad on one take but really good on the second takes' beginning and I want to take the good beginning and put it with the good ending. Also in order to do this I will need to probably add silence to the track, how do I do this?
Also, how do I change the volume of just one part of a track?
If I need to go through automation to do this, I will go through it tonight, but I'd like to know if it is pertinent, or it will go over my head.
Thank you,

Brandon Keith

HI Brandon. You need to read the CakeTalking Tutorial and sonar help to do with things like automating effect parameters, selecting audio clips, and maybe how to select part of a clip and then apply effects destructively.
