you're right!  !Together (also by said Roger Noble, 2001).
rather unintuitive name for what i want to do in this situation.

but next i intend to try the tricks offered by your !headings applet.

thanks.  glad you're around!  i wasn't sure if the 2001 ".ac" email 
address given at the bottom of the applet would still be valid, since 
students tend to move on.

i'm in final throes of producing a 300-page book as an OPro novice.
