As to Windows and files don't appear until you do F5. refresh. Yeah
really irritating. But the joke is when you Google for a solution. It's
a known problem, been known for many years, millions of people have it,
lots of solutions, but no solution. What actually goes on inside
MicroSoft about this - do they know the solution but can't be bothered -
or is there no solution because of a fundamental flaw in design.
I don't think it is as bad as it used to be. There is a delay, but if I save a
new
file to a folder that is open in explorer, that file appears. It sometimes
takes a second or two, but it does get there. Changing the sort order
can take longer and require a f5 though.
The CIFS protocol allows you to register listeners so you can get notified about
changes to files and folders. That is what I have used for this sort of thing
and
I had assumed explorer did the same.
I think part of the problem is that not all CIFS implementations support the
notifications.
So you may not get notifications from a non-windows network drive. There's not
much MS can do about that apart from maybe poll - not really a good solution.
