A halftone b/w picture that I am trying to scan (DPlngScan 1.24) ends
up with a mottled appearance. I can clear this from the lighter sky
part but not the main image. If it is relevant, the picture was
published in a journal in 1939.
ISTR that this was covered here some time ago. Is there a fix?

DplngScan is not the thing, TWAIN is what does the scanning.

I guess the "superscale" feature in TWAIN is what you're after. See the TWAIN 2 manual. Much depends on which scanner you've got. You may need to set up the optical resolution in the TWAIN driver before using superscale.

Let us know how you go on.
