Ah, so the limit is on the number of subpaths, not on the number of path elements per subpath? That is an important difference. If the limit really is on the number of subpaths, then David's idea of smoothing the outlines to use fewer path segments will not make any difference. The number of required subpaths is determined by the design of the ornaments - basically, the number of white holes in the enclosing black shape.
