Can't comment on how the CPR RS-2s with steam generators
were utilized but aside from 8400, the other four kept
their generators until the mid '60s. Given the frugal nature
of the CPR,I suspect passenger service was part of their
role.

Interesting. I just realized that the initial order of B&M RS-
2s
that were basically used interchangeably with the CPR's RS-2s in
those
early years didn't have steam generators as built. They were,
however,
added a few years later to all units except one in that early
order.
But it doesn't seem that the CPR used their 'Vermont' RS-2s in
passenger service, at least with any regularity, so I imagine the
lack
of steam capability on the companion B&M units in the CPR's pool
didn't present operational problems.

FWIW the B&M had BL-2s as well.
