Thanks for this comprehensive information. I have a
friend who was a bellboy at the St. Johnsbury House at
this time (as was I about five years later--oh, those
tour buses!). He tells of taking the mail down to the
depot when working until midnight and watching the
train come through. I wanted to give him some info.
His recollection is that the train didn't stop, but
picked up the sack on the fly. Would this have been
possible sometimes?
