Locomotives being sold for scrap or salvage or whatever you want to call
it
generally are stripped before shipment and the railroad(s) take off what
they can reuse. It would be extremely rare for them to be shipped off with
the bell and horn still on them.
I and a coup,e of other guys salvaged the bell, with the owners permission,
from a train master, I think it was, in a scrap yard in Lachine QC back
around 1970s or so. The horn was subsequently placed on the Canadian
Railway Museum's No. 9.
