Looks in service to me in both photos. May not have been actually running when the photos were taken, but far too clean for something going to the scrapper. Just the fact the builders plate and class plate is missing means nothing.

It looks like #8906 was being sent to Striegel for scrapping. The
photographer has another photo he took of #8906 at the same location
and day(?) and it clearly shows the builders plates and class plate
removed and the unit appears dead in tow (pretty clean exhaust for an
FM! hehe!).

1966. This is the first I've heard of CPR F-M's on the Newport Sub,
