I'd like to know when the yellow and red stripe paint scheme was
introduced, also whether the snow-pilot was a winter only feature.
I'm not entirely positive but I've been working with the assumption that the
safety stripes were part of the general passenger car lettering scheme
change in 1948. Photographic evidence backs up the general time period and
short of locating the actual railway stencil drawing for the gas-electric
that's my best guess.
The snowplough may be a winter feature. Just like what was done with steam
engines in areas where there was lots of snow.
