A minor nose variation: a few of the early rebuilds received a "pointed" nose
(8203, 8204, 8633-35, maybe more).
A minor step variation: the first 5 units were already chop-nosed, and when
renumbered to 8200's kept their old style of steps and handrails, receiving the
CP "vertical" steps at a later date.
IIRC, there's a rule out there stating something like yard units without ditch
lights are restricted to 15mph over crossings. CP occasionally runs yard units
on transfers or as roadswitchers on the mainlines, so it seems likely a few
were equipped with ditch lights for this.
8250-8252 were units rebuilt as 15/1600 yard units but kept transition for some
reason. They were later renumbered to road units, but lack dynamic brakes.
What I'm curious about has to do with the rebuilt RS18's. There's lots of
photos that show them in mainline and roadswitcher service. Why renumber them
into the 1800's (yard series) and not into the road series (say, the 8300's)?
