Union station in1927 with cars of the era parked out front . I imagine it
was the cab stand . now a question why did the station take so long to open

The railways wanted to open Union Station as soon as the headhouse was finished
in
1920. But the station sat empty for seven years because the city wanted the
tracks to
come in on the new elevated viaduct. The city owned much of the land underneath
the
station. The station was actually designed so that it would work without
elevated tracks.
There were a lot of other complex political factors at work but that's it in a
nutshell.
Also another curiosity
would the Royal York be under construction in 1927 or did not start till
later??
The Canadian Pacific Railway bought the Queen's Hotel in 1927, demolished it
and began
construction on the Royal York. Some of the same architects who designed Union
Station
were involved. The Royal York opened in June 1929.
