To me there is a bigger issue here than focussing on Sophie and Bert. If I
were to do a number of things that Bert and Sophie do, my professional
association would have heard about it and I would have been asked to “retire”.
Systemic Constellation Work teaches us to question what we think we know and
observe what comes from the field. So what would happen if we did that?
I agree, we were not there, however my body reacts to what is happening. It
reacts because of my story and my experiences and I need to take care of me.
Having said that...
There is a piece of knowledge that has not been brought to the forefront for
practitioners. It is not part of our general training, and we need to seek it
outside of the constellation training. That is the impact of trauma which may
explain why the participants were unable to move or say what was asked. Having
said that, simply repeating phrases that come from the head or while
disassociated have little impact.
A better of understanding of trauma has even been downplayed by some trainers.
There is also the the issue of the division of the Constellation Community. It
can become the elephant in the room. For a group of people who promote the
bringing together of what has been separated, the constellation community seems
to have failed at bringing itself together.
Some will want to defend Bert and Sophie, some will want to take them off the
pedestal they were put on, some will want to ignore what is happening with both
the community and what their actions can represent.
What happened in that video may be forcing the constellation community to begin
to look inwards to address and heal some of its own woundedness. I think that
what is happening is a push for the community to enter adult hood, while
respecting the “father”, yet finding its own way. After all, children do grow
up and leave home. The ones who do best do so with respect.
There is global movement that is veering to the right and another equal
reaction to the left.
On the surface it appears that the video demonstrates a veering to the “right”.
Will the constellation community mirror that same movement?

To be fair, not being present in the room with the field, the issue and the
teaching, as well as not speaking either of the languages, does not support
me understanding what’s taking place in the video.
That being said, I’ve never worked with an energy of confrontation like this,
nor have I seen such an approach be effective in healing. I have experienced
re-wounding and an amplification of my defenses when such an approach was
taken with me in a healing environment. I’ve also never seen my teachers
work in this way, and they trained with Hellinger and his first generation of
trainers.
While there have been times I’ve felt guided to invite the client in
different ways to consider that their healing is on the other side of their
resistance, and sometimes suggest ways they might approach gaining a new
perspective, I always trust that their soul knows how much they are capable
to move at any time. In my experience, invitation to movement leads to
lasting change better than does coercion.
