Our job(s) were both Physical security and Law Enforcement. We use to
have a detail that would travel to other islands (Philippines) to gather
up the awol guys, but they stopped that. In town we would go get a PC
(Philippines Constable) usually Golf Unit has him. Which was great and
fun to have if you get the "right" one! :-) Jun (his name) was the best
though. He didn't take any crap from no one. One drunken belligerent
sailor found out the hard way that you don't call a guy with a M-16 a
"monkey"! :-O I can't imagine what it feels like to get knocked upside
the head with the butt end of a M-16! We had secondary juridiction on
Militay personel, but unless the guy/gal was REALLY out of line and
broke a serious law, the local law enforcement handed them over to us.

That tour is what made me stop drinking to get drunk though! :-O
Although even before then I wasn't an everyday type drinker, and rarely
got drunk, but after seeing what drunk sailors and marines do when
they're drunk, and having to search a drunk guy who pissed on himself
(that was my initiation out in town), opened my eyes! :-) It was the
best 18 months in the Military and my life.

By the way, the AP in Angeles CIty could carry sidearms in town, the
MP's in Olongapo/Subic couldn't! More NPA activity up there from what
was the reasoning they gave us.

I did have my trusty C64 computer with me though. It came in handy when
I had to make this HUGE banner for this female security guard on base,
who later on became my wife, who later became my ex! :-(

Had to bring it back on topic huh? lol!!! :-)

RB> Same here with being what was called "AP" (Air Police) back in your
RB> day...they since split into two groups - security police (rivet counters
RB> that guard "assets") and Law Enforcement (next closest thing to a regular
RB> civilian cop - domestics, B&E, thefts, burlgaries, armed robbery,
RB> confinement, traffic, etc). I was in Law Enforcement - started as a
RB> "volunteer" (we all know how that goes) in LE augmentee program and was the
RB> only one allowed a patrol without a real LEO and once the regulars went to
RB> the middle east we were made permanent and since I was E6 and the regular LE
RB> flight chief was E5 I outranked him and actually took his job - did desk,
RB> patrol, armory, riot control (we had a few minors becuase of Desert Storm
RB> and having a college nearby) and all the neat stuff they do until they
RB> pulled us back to our regular squadrons to close up, pack up and go onto our
RB> next base. I grew up as a cop's kid so not only did I know much of the job
RB> anyway and had a feel for things (which is why I was the only augee that was
RB> given a regular patrol on his own) I also fit right in and didn't whine
RB> about the weird hours, crap that people gave us, etc. Drunks were fun -
RB> nothing like hading them a bucket to clean the cell they puked in before
RB> their commander picked them up. Also had to know both the Moranda for
RB> civilians and the military rights card for active duty - not much different
RB> but different enough to make a need for two. Even got to go with another LE
RB> twice to get a poor widdo AWOL nitwit that thought it was so hard going to
RB> boot camp and decided to run back to mommy's apron strings. Geesh what
RB> morons - wouldn't doubt it a bit if most of them that do that end up as
RB> managers in fast food places.
