Hi, I use both bookshare and gutenberg and find them to be very helpful resources. I have a Braille Lite and can easily translate plain text into Braille files. I think the issue is that bookshare's books are already formatted. As far as scanning errors, I think bookshare does a wonderful job considering that scanning is difficult especially for someone who is totally blind like myself. Sometimes it may be hard to decipher certain types of errors if you can't see the print. This is just my opinion and my experience. Gutenberg has also been around much longer as wel. I think bookshare has made great improvements in their services even since I have been a member. Allowing subscribers to resubmit scanned material in order to improve its quality is a great step. I would recommend that everyone who qualifies use bookshare as well as other sources for ebooks. I hope everyone has a Wonderful Christmas! Becky

Hi. There is certainly nothing wrong with bookshare. It's nice that they offer embosser files or DAISY books. The reason for suggesting PG is that they have an army of volunteer proofreaders who fix as many errors as possible. By only dealing with public domain texts, it's possible for anyone to work on them and you get very accurate texts. I only meant that bookshare books have more errors and won't be as accurate to the original. I do suggest PG specifically for A Christmas Carol because it has gone through major revisions since the bookshare.org copy.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you prefer bookshare? Is it because you have a membership and it's easier to download from one site? Is it because PG doesn't offer .brf or DAISY files? If there is something that would make PG better for you, I'm interested. I can't make any official changes or anything, but I can pass on suggestions. If there is a demand for Braille files, I can work on a way to implement them. Great efforts have been made so the site is easy to use for the blind. You can even read the books online if you want. I am in no way trying to not respect your preference for bookshare. I respect them very much and think they are a great resource. I'm just wondering how Project Gutenberg could be better. If you don't want to answer, that's fine.

Thank you for the suggestions.
