Hello, One of the reasons why I bought this unit is that I did not have to worry about charging a battery. I will mostly use the bookport on vacation mainly when I am away from home. I want to be able to either plug in head phones, or when we are both listing, to plug in travel speakers. Finding a plug to plug in a charger when you are not sure where a plug is is sometimes frustrating, and even dangerous. I say that because in Central America, electricity is erratic at best and prone to massive power surges, that could damage a unit if it is charging. Also, after a while, a rechargeable battery would have to be replaced. I am not sure that I want to have to call APH to get a new battery every time this happens, and even if I did, it would still mean the bookport would be down while the new battery comes. Even so, I love not having to worry about recharging.
