Hi:

The Book Port was officially discontinued last December because of the
inability to get parts from the manufacturer. Also, we have put as much into
the Firmware or guts of the unit as it would allow. Basically, it couldn't
hold anymore changes. Thus, the product was discontinued. I'm sorry you were
disappointed by this news. We've had to do that a lot since then.

The update you saw from April was a software update to the software that goes
along with the Book Port. Although we can't make any new changes to the unit
itself, we can make software changes, since we have programmers here who do
that. We will only make changes as they are warranted to fix bugs or major
problems, such as not being able to install with Windows Vista.

We will continue to support the current Book Port as far as a working
standpoint is concerned. This support will be for any repairs that are needed
or for people who own the unit and need assistance.

Perhaps, you will be able to find a used Book port somewhere.

Since the Book Port's discontinuation, we have been talking about the
development of a Book Port 2. In the beginning, we talked about features and a
possible time-of-release. However, due to difficulties with the development,
it was pushed back and put on hold several months ago. At that time, we said
we would announce its availability "If and When" it happens. Given the current
rumors that are now surfacing about Book Courier, I'm glad we didn't give a
date. Whenever a product is in development, anything can happen.

I'm sorry I don't have better news, but that's the best I can tell you.

Sincerely,

Pamela Rader

Subject: [bookport] From Maria.

Hello everyone. I am new to this list and I hope it's OK asking questions on
the Book Port.

I am a doctoral student at Boston University and i have been trying to buy a
Book Port. Today I tried calling the APH office but i got a lady who kept
telling me that they don't sell the Book Port at this time. No matter how hard
I tried to get her to say more, she seemed to be stuck on that phrase and would
say it over and over again. i believed that meant that the Book port is out of
production and that there was no chance of finding it anywhere any more. So i
gave up. However, on checking the APH page, I saw there was an update last
April. I can't believe the thing was updated and then production was
discontinued in two months. Why would anyone do that?

Please let me know if you can help me on that and sorry for the stupid question.

The fact is, I really need one soon and I was hoping to learn its price and get
it ASAP if I could afford it.

Thank you in advance.
All the best,
Maria.
