Most navigation is the same. DAISY files may have more sectional options, however, though a lot depends on the person who created the FILES. DAISY files are definitely not created equal. Section One heading navigation is done by using the one-four and three-six combinations, and the remaining sections have been routed to the four-seven and six-nine combinations. Up to eight levels are possible, but you'll rarely run into that many. Otherwise, DAISY files navigate about like anything else.

Hi,

If I'm understanding your questions: 1. I believe the Daisy format gives you
more navigation options, but often they may not work well with Bookshare
books even in DIsy format, depending how well the page and chapter breaks
are indicated.

2. After you download a Daisy format book, just select it and transfer it to
the BookPort; you do not need to unpack it first. You are correct that you
do not need to use the Bookshare-supplied Daisy software, Victor Reader.

If you decide to use the .brf software, I believe that too is directly
translated by the BookPort. (I can't remember if that would require
unpacking first; it might.) I know that .brf books from Web Braille can be
transferred directly onto BookPort, and BookPort translates them to speech.

I now have membership with Bookshare. I've downloaded and installed the
unpacking software. When I download a book, does the Daisy format give me
better navigation on the bookport than the BRF format? And, if I'm going to
read downloaded books with the bookport and not on the PC, am I correct in
thinking I don't need the Daisy software?
Thank you.
Lois
