For some perspective, Malmo had 65 murders in 2017 and 20 in 2020
DC a similar sized city had 63 murders by April 28th this year
Health care may be more readily accessible here but it's a system that
bankrupts people and gives statistically equal or worse care as in most
Nordic countries and a much higher cost. It seems that only the rich
survive in either place.
Less than 5% of US military sexual assaults are convicted and we have a
culture of rape in our highest educational institutions (this is likely not
isolated to the US) every woman knows another woman who has been assaulted
but no one seems to know any men who are rapists. Sometimes we let rapists
who are popular cultural icons out of jail on technicalities while letting
our police continue to kill people based on their skin color.
The US has always been at war since I was born.
The US is building the F35 jets that Norway is buying
The US ranks much higher on the list of per capita greenhouse emissions.
While this isn't quite polluting our salmon waters like a salmon farm, it
does pollute the atmosphere for the rest of the world including Scandnavia
The leader of the leading political party in the US for the last 4 years
while not an officer of the SS was a pretty darn fascist kind of guy if you
ask me.
Public schools in the US teach some watered down version of slavery to more
than 26% of white children.
I'm not really a fan of Sweden, I'm not really a fan of the US either. I
have nowhere to go. I think it all sucks, I'm just not sure why anyone
felt it necessary to throw Sweden under the bus while talking about
meadowlarks.
There are still nesting meadowlarks in the Willamette Valley, it is still
the state bird, the Willamette Valley isn't all of Oregon, there's a lot
more Oregon out there than the Valley. Sweden is too cold for me and I'll
never get a job there so I'm stuck here.

I apologize for causing all of that negative thought. In Canada, they
sometimes experience waits for medical treatment as well, but the upside is
that they don’t tend to go bankrupt because of a cancer diagnosis. It just
seems to me like a good idea for the US to emulate the countries that rank
annually among the most desirable places to live, best quality of life,
happiest, etc. Canada, Australia, and Switzerland are up there too. Well
ahead of the US. Annually.
At any rate, I applaud you for your vigorously patriotic optimism. Flags

Berlin then stepped onto a Red Cross bus in 1945 and got a free ride home.
It wouldn't be accurate to call the Sweden Democrats "neo" Nazis because
they represent a continuum of the original dudes.
Scandanavia has a wealth of negative role models for improving the
USA but l am unaware of ANY for real positive examples. Above all, their
environmental protection track record is abysmal relative to ours . There
is ample room for improvement in our country, but it remains a trend setter
in social progress to virtually every country on Earth.

the happiest and best places to live in the world, is Anu Partanen’s The
Nordic Theory of Everything.
Look at Pew Research’s stats on world views of the United States. Utterly
embarrassing.
Those who benefit from Consumerist Vulture Capatalism are by and large
indifferent to the need for a greater good. That is the pair of cement
shoes that is taking us straight to the bottom.

Yawl would probably not enjoy Venezuela, North Korea, or Cuba. Sweden
and Denmark are not socialist. It just doesn’t work well for most people.
When I asked a second cousin, once removed, in Croatia if people missed
socialism, he responded that only the communists do. The once poor village
by the sea has become a prosperous place since the country abandoned
socialism. A cousin suggested that I move “home”. Its tempting. See
