And when I think about who it is who commits the most violence against people
in our society, it's clearly the people who will never be arrested for their
crimes, the heads of the big corporations who have poisoned our rivers and
streams, those companies who built the big pipelines which leak the poisons
that kill people and make their homes uninhabitable, who are poisoning our
planet. The people at the Pentagon, the CIA, and the NSA, and the rest of our
security state who are responsible for the deaths and injuries of the young
people whom they send to dominate other countries and the people in those
countries who are killed, injured, and made homeless as a result, our
militarized police who kill people of color instinctively. But when people
think of violent crimes, their minds have been trained to think of a
disadvantaged individual, possibly mentally ill, most likely a person of color,
who has been accused of physically injuring or hurting one person

Well put, Miriam.
A friend of mine told me, many years ago, that in her neighborhood mothers told
their sons to avoid the police at all costs, but if ordered to halt, never,
never run. My friend is a Black woman who successfully raised 4 sons and 2
daughters. Another acquaintance, on another email list, told me that we've put
an end to racism in this country. He is a blind judge who tells me, and the
list, that he voted for, and will vote for Donald Trump. I protested his
statement that we are a land of law and order. Not only do I believe that if
we barely scratch the surface, Racism will bubble up, but I also believe that
the Law and Order of America is set in place by the Ruling Class for their
support and protection. I site my experience of contesting the expanding
beaver pond into our horse pasture, as an example. We spent $6,000 in lawyer
expenses before we were able to take our case before a judge. We had spent all
of our discretionary money, and if the judgement was in favor of our neighbor,
we would need to not only pay our attorney but also court costs and the costs
incurred by our neighbor. We cut our losses. The good ending was that Mother
Nature rescued our pasture by allowing heavy rain to burst the beaver dam.
The beavers moved to another stream.
But the point is, the average citizen cannot afford Justice in our courts,
without paying a heavy price.
In fact, it is more than a Racist matter. It is a Class struggle.

Bob,
I think, perhaps, you need to learn a bit more about Mayor Pete's
background. A hedge fund guy who's been involved with the CIA, who
contributed money to a company that developed an app to be produced at
the last minute in the Iowa caucuses and claimed victory there before
any votes were counted, is a bit suspect, perhaps not the right person
to be the leader of an empire? Aside from making money and doing dirty
deeds for the CIA, his only political experience is as mayor of a
small city where his record with the black community is not great.
As for people who are imprisoned, having the vote, I think that it is
an error to assume that someone who is in prison because that person
has been found guilty of committing a violent act, should not have the right
to vote.
But before we even discuss that, I think it's an error to discard a
good candidate because you disagree with some of his positions. I have
some disagreements with Bernie Sanders on some issues, but the
question is, if you look at the whole picture and what issues are most
important for most people in the country, and the positions that the
other candidates hold on those positions, then the ones that I differ
with him on, seem rather insignificant.
The question of who is accused of what kinds of crimes and just who it
is in this society who commits the most violence against people, is so
much more complicated than it appears on the surface. Some guy, who
robs a liquor store because he's desperate for the money to feed his
family or to feed his drug habit, and he commits a violent act in
terror of being caught. Can I put myself in his shoes? Do I know what
kind of life he's lived or what he is thinking or feeling? Isn't he a
victim of a society that marginalizes whole groups of people so that
they don't live secure lives with a loving family , homes, enough
food, a decent education, equal opportunity to thrive? Is he a violent
person who is permanently rotten to the core or is he a human being
with potential who is redeemable, who could benefit from
opportunities, if only they were provided? Should I say that he has no
right to vote for the people who are responsible for running the
government that determines his fate? But given our justice system, so
many people who are in prison, may never have even committed the
crimes that they're being punished for. They may have never received
proper legal representation. They may have been forced to plead
guilty. Their trials may have been fixed by dishonest prosecutors or D
A's. There are trials in which the law stipulates that certain
pertinent facts may not be disclosed because of, "national security".
We have people in high security prisons, in solitary confinement, who are
there because all of the facts in their cases were never disclosed at trial.
This whole discussion of whether or not people should be permitted to
vote seems so crazy, given the fact that those of us who do get to
vote, have absolutely no influence over what our government does. The
people who have influence, are the ones with money. We get to vote for
figureheads who do whatever they choose, based on who has the most financial
power over them.

Hi Miriam,
I do agree with all of your points here. I guess I figure that maybe
Mayor Pete or Amy would be just a bit better than the ugliness of
either Biden or Bloomberg.
But now we have a bit of a cloud over Amy with this probably wrongful
conviction and her history with police. Looks like this case involved
bribing of witnesses against the defendand who later recanted and
furthermore, another person involved admitted he was the killer.
Apparently it was a stray bullet that killed an 11 year old girl as
she sat by a window. If true, I’m back in the Mayor Pete camp for now.
While my heart is mostly for Bernie we do have at least one
difference. I am against violent inmate's right to vote. IN many
places, any imprisonment sacrifices one's right to vote.

Bob,
The media is certainly out to get Bernie, as is the leadership of the
Democratic Party. He's got lots of young people of color. But the
wealthy and powerful are running things. Everyone goes on and on
about how the most important thing is to beat Trump and that any Democratic
candidate will do.
I hate Trump. I hate what the Republican Party is doing. But aside
from the fact that everyone will sound saner and be more organized,
I'm not sure how having a Mike Bloomberg or a Joe Biden would improve
things for anyone except the people who benefit directly in financial
terms when a Democrat becomes President, the leadership of the party.
They have this disgusting machine which includes nancy Pelosi and the
people at CAP and the guy whose emails were so scandalous when
WikkiLeaks made them public, who's now been appointed back into the
leadership, and the machine has cooperated with the Republicans more
often than not. It does not represent the Democratic voters who keep
being fooled by the party's liberal rhetoric. Yes, the party mouths
progressive social values, but it promotes war and US empire, and it
hasn't put the needs of the people first since Johnson's war on
poverty in the early 1960's. Everyone of us has been naïve, at least until we
finally learned our lesson when it turned out that Obama was a Corporate
president.

Hi Miriam,
Let's see how Bernie does in states with a more diverse population. If
he's successful among minorities, then I might begin to believe that
he could be elected. No doubt, there's lots of passion for Bernie, but
I'm afraid that if Trump doesn't do him in, the media might at the
behest of the corporate master.
I'd love to be proven wrong and would look forward to President
Bernie, Bob

Bob, Why would you think that Bernie isn't electable when he's getting
most of the votes? Amy is far behind and she's a center right
candidate, just like Mayor Pete. They do fine with old more
conservative white people. The majority of the people in our country are
people of color and they're young.
Whenever Bernie does campaign appearances, he has thousands of people.
Amy doesn't. Pete doesn't. He's the perfect corporate candidate. He's
young, has been involved with the CIA, and with big investment
companies. What makes him electable is the corporate media spin. Did
you know that the New York Times endorsed Elizabeth Warren and Amy
Klobochar? Two white women, one center right, the other a former
Republican, somewhat to her left, neither challenging our current plutocracy.

Hi Frank,
I noticed your disdain for Sanders.
So, who do you support for the nomination?
My heart is with Sanders but I doubt he's electable and what I want
most is to see Trump defeated in November. In the end, I'll vote for
whoever is on the other side of the ballot from Trump. If it's Biden,
I'll be holding my nose. IF it's Bernie, I'll be happy to vote for him though
I fear he'd lose.
I'm torn in the primary between Mayor Pete and Amy Klobichar. I
believe that Amy is most likely to unify the nation if that is possible.

Sanders only wants to make sure Trump wins. He sabotaged 2016 and he
will do it again in 2020. Obviously he cares about nothing more than
his wealthy liberal elite; certainly not the working class.

He was the only candidate with enough votes to have beaten Trump in
2016 and he's the only one who can beat him now. He's the only
candidate who cares about the working class and the poor and the lower
middle class. He's the one with young people and people of color who
are not elderly and conservative, supporting him. The others are all
Corporate Democrats. The corporate media and PBS and NPR and
especially, MSNBC have been distorting what they report to give you
the impression that he can't win, and like last time, they'll do
whatever it takes to make him lose. They'd rather have Trump because
the leadership of the Democratic Party are all wealthy. They don't
give a hoot about the base of the party. They loved Hillary who is a
war hawk and whose Clinton Foundation took money from all of the
middle eastern monarchies that her state department supported. . Would
you like Joe Biden who was opposed to school integration and who
favored mass incarceration and the financial industry? Or Pete
Puttigieg who is backed by billionaires and who wants to cut social
security and medicaide? And by the way, Sanders is the only candidate
who has criticized Israel's treatment of the Palestinians. Do you
want our country to continue on the path that it's on? Because all of
these Democratic candidates want to continue the status quo, more and more
money going to the ultra wealthy and the rest of us being treated like trash.

Anyone who believes that should buy a bridge in Brooklyn. Sanders is
just another of the many con-men in the political circus right now. He
proved that with his shenanigans in2016. I think he is running
strictly to keep Trump in office. He may be one of the least electable
candidates. If he wins the nomination Trump will laugh his way to another 4
years.

What scares them is not the word. It's that if he won, that would mean
that he really would facilitate organizing the people to remove the
advantages that the corporations and the billionaire have. And once
people began to organize and realized that they had power and could
change things, they might truly change the system.

I'm reminded of the old radio/TV sitcom, The Life of Riley. Chester A.
Riley was fond of saying, "Don't confuse me with facts. My head is
made up".
And so it is with the Democratic Establishment. Bernie is not acceptable.
It's that pesky word, "socialist" that scares them.
Socialism is okay when practiced by the Establishment, rewarding one
another with posh military contracts. But let's not get crazy and
pass the goodies around among the Working Class.
If being a Democrat or Republican means that you take the Party line
and follow your Party's orders, then I'm a Socialist. If being a
Socialist means that I must stand alongside my fellow Workers, and
fight together to improve our share of our nation's wealth, a wealth
we helped to create, then I truly am a Socialist.
Your Socialist friend, Carl Jarvis, still trying to get through to the
Democratic Party that I quit! You don't want my vote, because I vote
like a Socialist! If you don't want Bernie Sanders, then you sure don't want
me!

Sanders Pulls Further Ahead of Buttigieg in New Hampshire Poll By Jon

his New Hampshire primary has been a rollercoaster ride, with one
last hairpin turn in the final night of the exclusive WBZ/Boston
Globe/Suffolk University tracking poll.
Bernie Sanders appears to be cementing his hold on first place with
27 percent, while Pete Buttigieg, who had surged into a virtual tie
with Sanders as the week ended, in second with 19 percent.
And Amy Klobuchar continues her momentum from last night with a 14
percent showing, good for third place. However, she is still within
the poll's 4.4 percent margin of error of Joe Biden and Elizabeth
Warren, who placed within a fraction of each other in fourth and
fifth place.
In addition to these statewide numbers, Suffolk has also been polling
the city of Dover, a so-called bellwether community that has
foreshadowed the statewide order of finish in the last three
contested Democratic primaries.
And their response to our poll seems to confirm the statewide trend.
The Dover polling has Sanders and Buttigieg closer together,
finishing first and second within the 5.6 percent margin of error of each
other.
But running solidly in third is Klobuchar, an also-ran in our poll
all week who has seemingly picked up steam off a widely-acclaimed
debate performance Friday night.
Joe Biden came in fourth, just barely ahead of Elizabeth Warren, both
within reach of Klobuchar but with a showing that has to be a
disappointment for both of them.
"This is the first time all of the survey is post-debate," notes
David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research
Center.
"Whether Klobuchar's spike is temporary remains to be seen. Sanders'
improvement comes in two areas: the West/North region - the four
counties that know him best - and people torn between him and Warren.
If Klobuchar were to finish third or fourth, she's going to knock
someone into that fifth spot, a real dire place to be for Biden or
Warren."
Of course, the only poll that really matters is the one in the voting
booth on Tuesday, so get out and vote and then watch your vote count
with our special primary night coverage starting at 8 p.m. on TV38
with a full wrapup on WBZ News at 11.
The exclusive WBZ-TV/Boston Globe/Suffolk University tracking poll is
a two-day rolling sample of 500 likely New Hampshire Democratic
primary voters.
