I think, but am not positive, that the answer to both your questions is yes. 
Australia had its guns, its cowboys, its indigenous population. Their favorite 
site to take visitors to, was their war memorial.

Hi Miriam,
No doubt that many Americans would benefit from a program that bans some guns 
and substantially reduces the number of guns on the streets.
Two questions about Austrailia:
1. Did they once have the I love guns cowboy mentality we see among certain 
groups of Americans?
2. Did Austrailia once have anything close to the number of guns per capita 
that we now have?
Don't get me wrong. I'm perfectly willing to try to reduce the number and types 
of guns on our streets. What gets me is things like rescinding the brady bill 
which banned assault weapons. I wonder how many relatives of Ronald Reagan 
supported the brady Bill?
