Hi Carl, miriam and all,
I think we're splitting hairs here. The bottom line is that the government
of the united States has failed most of us very badly and is nowhere close
to any kind of democracy. Elections are basically a dog and pony show and
that show has gotten worse since 1980. Before that election, there was at
least the chance that we might elect people with hearts and souls.. I've
heard it said that the Ameircan system is the worst system accept for all
the rest. While I don't believe that, I do believe that most nations suffer
from corrupt and dishonest leadership at some level. The problem with
America is two fold.
1. We don't come close to measuring up to the high-minded ideals expressed
in documents like the declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and
Thomas Paine's Common Sense. By the way, I just finished reading a Wikipedia
article on Thomas Paine. Now there was a true hero of universal sufferage
who paid dearly for his political views. Find the link pasted below my name.
2. WE have way too much military power.
