I don't like investigating formatting, but I have discovered a few things. The font size may not be the same, but a wide variety of font size does appear in the DAISY and HTML versions of the books. Of course font size is not indicated in braille, and aren't we all happy about that? :-)

Bolding doesn't survive, which hopefully will be something addressed by bookshare at some point.

Don't ask me about indenting and stuff like that, because I haven't really payed attention in the originals, and therefore wouldn't miss it in the final copies. HTML doesn't often have it anyway, unless you count centering.

Blank lines appear in HTML files, but don't in DAISY as far as I can tell, but of course that might depend on the software you used to view it.

Multiple spaces seem to be reduced to one space, and as everyone already knows tabs just vanish without anything to replace them.

Sorry, but I haven't noticed anything at all about formatting in braille. I read things in braille, but either no formatting exists or I manage to trash it when I put the file on my braille note.

Jill

I don't know how important formatting is either.
Given the wide variety of platforms BookShare books are read under, some
totally speech oriented, it is questionable if formatting ends up
surviving anyway.
Hence, I, as a validator, don't tend to look at this issue. Personally, I
am concerned about the general text quality, whether page breaks exist,
whether the book is whole,
and how difficult is it to find chapters and the like.

As for this book, Jill, at least if it is rejected, you should feel
comfortable resubmitting it and knowing, if it ends up properly labeled,
it will end up in the collection.
In addition to the BSO designator, I would also include a comment in the
comments field noting that the book is intended as a replacement.
