Lots.  They are both critical components.
If you are blind,  the program that is in most cases easiest to use and is 
likely to give high results is Kurzweil 1000.
Some of the best scanners are made by EPSON:  3170 and 1660 if you can 
still find one.  Or current 4180,  a little slower but apparently quite 
strong.
