Hi all,
The wiki manual shouldn’t be used anymore as it is totally outdated. Please use
these website pages instead:
https://www.bookshare.org/cms/get-involved/volunteer/my-volunteer-home. From ;
this page you’ll find separate pages for the various volunteer activities with
instructions.
Thanks,
Madeleine

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: scanning a book with numbered footnotes and
asterisks page footnotes
Is the Volunteer Manual updated with all the changes? The books from the
checkout list have never been good enough for me not to need a printed copy of
the book in order for me to proofread the electronic file. Volunteering for
bookshare is getting to be a frustrating experience for me. Madeline, please
let us know if the Manual is updated. If it is not updated, when it will be.

Hi Rik,
I'll cut and paste here a summary of what Madeleine posted a while ago about
how to handle the footnote information when it is below the text on a page.
Short summary: don't add the word footnote, but do put the footnote text inside
of square brackets.
We [Bookshare] ask that the information in the footnote be placed in brackets
if the number is either superscript or regular-sized font in the text (to
clarify that it is not part of the text).... I've been recommending the method
of leaving the number in the text (either in regular font size or
superscripted) and then placing the footnote in brackets, as that is what both
other in-house staff and outsourcers are instructed to do.
Also, if anyone comes across a book that only has one or two footnotes and the
author has inserted asterisks (and no numbers), please put the footnote
information in square brackets. In this case, include an asterisk (after the
left bracket you add for the footnote text) but before the footnote information
(because there is no number), but no period after it (the asterisk).
I hope that helps!

And when the footnote text is below with a bunch of text that is unrelated to
the narrative text. Is it so that we should no longer put in the word,
“footnote” to announce that when the footnote begins?
Thanks for all.
It sure is an interesting book, I think. I wish I had read it in my earlier
school years.
