I have always thought this list should be for the discussion of issues or problems processing bookshare books and everything else was off topic and shouldn't be here but I know I'm out voted on this. -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Deborah Murray Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2012 6:50 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: no place on the list {was: Re: Off-topic discussions was RE: Re: Some proofing questions} Well, perhaps BookShare needs to revisit the purpose of and uses for it's lists. They are, after all, the list owners. I believe that the *main* purpose of the volunteer list is, and always has been discussion of subjects relating directly to volunteering--scanning, proofing, obtaining books etc. A secondary purpose, that of "getting to know one another," happens as we have these discussions, with the addition of some "happy birthdays, occasional notices of something one of us has going on and, of course, Bob's always-welcome humor. I just think it's stretching the limits to continue these long, off-topic discussions having nothing to do with BookShare. Not to mention the poor list digest members who have to deal with the mile-long message trains that don't get trimmed! I apologize to anyone who is thoroughly sick of this topic--I've known far too many volunteers who've left the list for this reason and may now be missing a lot of good information. We are a community, and become friends, and in general we care about each other and what's going on in each others' lives. I do agree, though, that the subject lines should be specific, so we can quickly decide if we want to read the post or delete it before reading. Maybe the subject line could even include who the post is from, which might give added information about the subect (e.g., if it's from Daria it might be more about her health) or fromDornetta, about her twins)--or knowing from whom the post is might give us an idea of the tone of the post , knowing how various people write, smile Cindy To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
