Hi, Cindy. All he would have had to do was look at the comments and you would have shown up as the person who had the books. Take care.

I didn't even get a chance to look at them before I
released them. I took them because they'd been there a
long time and I wanted to get them off the list--or
someone had talked about problems that I thought I
could fix with the print book. There were quite a few
books I had that I was planning to do, one after the
other. Maybe I should take back the books I released
that no one's taken yet, since I released the mover a
month ago, I think. How Jake knew they were mine, I
don't know. I think I mis-counted days and they got
released. ThenI got the notice and re-took them, but
Jake in he meantime had noticed the cluster and found
out they were mine. smile

E,

By way of explanation...

re King Bongo and and the Doomsday Judge--and some
others that I released--I had them, as you can see,
for along time and kept renewing them, and I fully
planned to validate or reject them if the latter
was
necessary. I only released them, and a few others,
because Jake and Gerald told me that if I did maybe
others would take them and get them done. I did
notice
that someone took Holly and it was added to the
collection yesterday or the day before, and someone
took The Dead Suffer Too and rejected it--or
released
it and I took another look, after what that person
said, and rejected it. Also, someone did take Tammy
tell Me True.

I'm fully prepared to take the others I had if no
one
else has by the time I finish what I'm working on.
Thomas Sanchez, if he's who I'm thinking of, is an
important or well-known author and I'mlooking
forward
tor eading that book. Also, The Establishment, by
Howard Fast, if it's still up there, shouldbe added
to
the collecton.

I took these books originally because people had
mentioned problems with them that seemed to need a
sighted person and a print book. I'll be happy to
download them again and keep them off the list, but
I
don't like frequently getting my hands slapped--and
being denied chocolate as a punishment(smile).

I would like to see a list generated where "old
book" is defined as a book
which has been on step 1 for six months or a
year.
Either seem more
realistic than three months though I understand
that
three months is more
realistic than list of books on the list for
shorter
periods.

I also wonder if some of the "old books" which
linger and linger are
because the books have inherent issues which are
difficult for someone to
solve. Such issues include poor quality. I do
wish
bookshare would
prohibit book submissions of the lowest quality
now
allowed. Such sloppy
submits just makes for lots of work by
validators.
Given the technology
out today, we just need to raise the bar for
submit
quality.

I also want to comment on the practice of taking
a
book and holding it for
long periods only to release it back to step 1.
I
think in some cases this
happens because the book is of quality poor
enough
to completely frustrate
the validator and yet the validator does not
have
the nerve to reject the
book. In other cases, I am at a loss to explain
it
except I know things
come up. I do not mind that. Here is my
example of
the issue though.

was on the list since November of 2004. I
grabged
it. Fixing it up with
k1000 does not seem to be much of an issue. It
was
held for much of that
period by the same person who repeatedly renewed
it.
 This kind of thing
keeps the step 1 list loaded with sort of secret
old
books. For instance,
what really IS the issue with King Bongo A
Novel?
The Doomsday Marshal and
the Hanging Judge? Please let's keep talking
about
old books on the list
in specific terms for we can get rid of them on
step
1. (grin)
