The last time I sent boxes of books, it cost me about four to five dollars
each. The boxes weighed about as much as my wimpy, fifty-three year old
body can carry. Media mail prices are based on weight and distance. I've
found U.S. mail cheaper for this sort of thing than U.P.S. By the way,
would anyone like to do some scanning? I have more books to send to a
willing volunteer. I still have Pratik's address from the last round of
mailing, but nobody else's. If I don't get them out this week, I'll do it
in August.

The free matter for the blind law has really been tightened over the past
years. I don't think you can send print material to anyone using free
matter. You can, though, use the bulk book rate that is available to anyone
and isn't too bad. Ask at your post office or the info is probably online.
Actually, I just went to the post office web site www.usps.gov
<http://www.usps.gov/> and they do have the information about bulk mailing
or media mailing which covers books, but it was too complicated for me to
figure out. I'd just ask at the post office.

are heavy text books that might cost a lot to send otherwise.

My recollection of the special law is that a blind person may send material
to another blind person. I have no idea if there any weight constraints or
not.
If I was going to send something to the bookshare address, I think I would
first list the name of a blind recipient at the bookshare addie.

Will someone please explain the letter of the Blind Matter law?
