Do you think there may be volunteers out there who are unaware of the existence of the tips, let alone the specific one you mention? Is it possible some of them may welcome this info being readily available to them or do you think they are going to dig around for it on your site or other less known sources? Many do not even belong to this list. Jake I am merely suggesting that refusing to tell people things and making them go look at tips is the very attitude volunteers are having difficulty with. You have done truly stellar work with your site. We need to get this info to the average occasional volunteer in easily found ways requiring a minimum of digging so the submit and validate process is easy rather than fraught with confusing utterances from on high and people "refusing" to tell us things. And yes I will dig up that tip.

Elizabeth,If you are seriously asking how the database deals with Jr and III, I refuse to elaborate here, see the tip for the answer.Jake----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth and Burton" <thoth93@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2007 6:28 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: TitlesBoy are folks not on this list going to have fun with this distinction. Given Gustavo's concern that the database cannot deal with phd and md, what allows it to deal with JR. and III?E. At 07:20 PM 1/4/2007, you wrote:Elizabeth,Wrong. Jr. and III distinguish different people where as something like PhD is not given at birth to separate individuals. See Carrie's guidelines for submission fields tip at:http://jbrownell.com/bks/tip.asp?id=11for what BookShare has been doing for years. Have some of us repeatedly suggested that this tip should be read? This is so we can accomodate difficulties in the database.E. If the initials are on the person's birth certificate, they are part of his or her name, Like Jr. or III. M D and Sgt. etc are acquired reflecting status/accomplishments acquired during a lifetime and are supposed to be skipped.Do you think this method of deciding is sound? I would consider those items as titles as well. They are, technically speaking, descriptorsof the author's status and thus are not required. I would think it would be kind of illegal, too, given thefact that it's actually part of the author's name. Seems like the complete name of the author would be equally as important as the copyright name, theinclusion of page breaks, etc. Anyway, just my 2 cents' worth! <Smile> Jana----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth and Burton" <thoth93@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, January 03, 2007 6:27 PMSubject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Gustavo's comments are understandable by allaccording to GustavoI believe it has to do with the database and the fact that the database inits present form will see phd md etc as a actual author. The engineers are going to be busy particularly as this has been an issuediscussed on this list for over four years. He seems extremely annoyed to be questioned. At 12:57 PM 1/3/2007, you wrote: Stop Being Your Symptoms and Start Being Yourself Author: Arthur J. Barsky MD and Emily C.
