I downloaded a .wyn file to look inside it to see if there was any way to get the text out. I couldn't, each word in the book is surrounded by lots of characters and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. I sent an email to Freedom Scientific explaining I'm a Bookshare volunteer and asked if there was a tool to convert .wyn to something more common. So far they haven't answered my email. Their website says the have a demo disk for the product. If they don't answer my email, I'll ask for a copy of the demo disk in the hope that it can open an existing .wyn file. Frankly, such open acceptance is what I've grown to expect during my brief time on this list. It may also be relevant that Bookshare might not be around were it not for Arkenstone. I'djust like to see a really strong push toward eliminating these proprietary formats as coin of the realm; since fewer validators mean fewer final approvals. Might there be a process whereby those with Open Book could be enlisted to do conversions to .RtF automatically, then put them up for validation again? That's all I can say; and yes, I did remember to release the .ARK book. and then put -- "True Terror is waking up and finding your old high school class is running the country."--Kurt Vonegut.
