Here are a handful of possibilities:1. Heart-shaped Box by Joe Hill: Stephen King's son's debut novel is a strong story. 2. The Ruins by Scott Smith: Vacation gone terribly wrong. Smith, the author of A Simple Plan, is one of the best at conveying utter despair. Not to mention, in this novel at least, a horrific, mindless ... or is it? ... evil. 3. Off Season by Jack Ketchum: Anything by this gritty author of real-life horror is required reading for a fan of the genre, but Off Season is arguably his best work, along with The Girl Next Door. 4. Peter Straub: Known for his collaborations with Stephen King, as well as early works like Ghost Story and Floating Dragon, I think Straub truly shines with his Blue Rose trilogy, consisting of Mystery, Koko, and The Throat.
There are many subgenres in the horror category, so if you have any particular area in mind, i.e. if you want to read about zombies, vampires, etc. ask away and I can make some more specific recommendations.

I wanted Low Red Moon, but don't like buyingfrom the third party sellers. Still, since it is the sequel ... Let me go update my order, and I'll post any updates here.I can't think of any horror I want just now, but give me a few minutes witha search engine ... *Smile*Thanks for filling the virtual shelves with horror. It's one of my favoritegenres. -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Scott Blanks Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2007 5:40 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Sent Four Books to Bookshare for Scanning Hey Laura, No worries about the mix up. As is often said, these things happen. You're right ... if you completed the Amazon order today, you would almost certainly be able to nix the Kiernan book. If you do in fact take that step, I vote for Low Red Moon. According to Amazon, it is only available used fromAmazon's third party sellers, so you never know what you'll get when youorder that way, but my experience, having been a frequent Amazon patron, isthat the third party folks are mostly quality sellers. If you have any other horror-related requests, feel free to throw them outto the list. I scan almost exclusively in that genre, and there are other fans of the creepy books on list as well. Guess I missed the question about Kiernan back in February. I did check Bookshare and saw Murder of Angels there, as well as Silk, soI didn't even consider those. My sincere apologies, and I will query next time. I was impulse shopping,Isuppose, and since I hadn't seen anything on the list recently about her,I thought I was good. I doubt the order has shipped. I could remove that one and choose another. Have any preferences? -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Scott Blanks Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2007 5:18 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Sent Four Books to Bookshare for Scanning Hey Laura,Wish you would have given some warning time before ordering those as I'vealready got the Kiernan novel in my possession and will be scanning it within the next couple days. Also, I'm not certain if you were on either bookshare list back in early February, but I specifically asked whether anyone planned on submitting any of Kiernan's works at that time. I didn't see any responses, so I went aheadand ordered Murder of Angels, and Threshold. Angels is already part of thecollection.Maybe in the future you could query the lists before completing the onlineorder, thus avoiding the duplication. They'll be at Bookshareby May 5, according to Amazon. I just wanted to let folks know, so that we didn't duplicate effort. The Russ Kick book looks good; apparently he's done several disinformation books. I started with the most intriguing, but other titles by him look good. --- 1 "Twilight" Stephenie Meyer; Paperback; $8.99 2 "Threshold" Caitlin R. Kiernan; Paperback; $6.99 3 "Everything You Know About Sex Is Wrong: The Disinformation Guide to the Extremes of Human Sexuality (And Everything in Between)" Russ Kick; Paperback; $16.47 4 "Ironside: A Modern Faery's Tale" Holly Black; Hardcover; $11.55 To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
