Any volunteer can check for quality.
Those of us with K1000's rank spelling can check it pretty quickly.

Cindy, does someone check which copy is better? Poor Ruth has been Drowning in the admin queue for a month. It was one of the bounty books, but there was no indication that someone had already taken it. But it's nowon BS. This has happened so often, I feel like we're duplicating each other's work, which strikes me as an inefficient use of my time.

But, I'm weak, and I'll be back, I'm sure. And I will keep checking that the books I've worked on haven't been returned for something like copyright.

Mickey, it's more than possible that the books you're
spending so much time and care on are in better shape
than the ones in the admin q. You should approve and
upload them as Excellent and as possible replacements
for the ones that are there. Or hold on to them and
when the appear in the collection see what they're
like. As I said yesterday, I don't think the
administrators check anything more than the copyright
info, and books are often mis-labled as to
quality--witness Dust and Ashes. Good is rarely really
godd--more like Fair is pretty awful. If the one that
makes it into the collection isn't as good as yours,
you can submit yours as a replacement, and your
efforts will not have been for naught.

Hi, Group.

This is my third year of volunteering with
Bookshare. I think it's a great
source of wonderful reading material of all types.

However, I know that the Palo Alto center is
understaffed, that they're
behind. But in the past month I've validated or
nearly validated books that
were in the administrative queue, which ended up
being a total waste of my
time. I read a book thoroughly, making corrections
when I can as well as
spellchecking.

It's impossible to know what is being done, or what
has been done--both for
the scanner and the validator.

I'm taking a course in medical transcribing, plus
working, and can't afford
to spin my wheels.

So, for now, I'll stop volunteering. I'll keep
abreast of things, in case
things get better, but I'm returning the books I've
taken to validate.

It's been good working with you all. Thanks.

Mickey
