Monica and others,

I have yet to use the new, and hopefully improved OB 8. So, anything I say here
is supposition, no more.

With the disclaimer out of the way, here are a few random observations rolling
around in my head:
1. with OB 7 and earlier, not sure how far back, you can use the spacebar to
begin scanning, assuming you are not in the editing mode. By default, when
scanning in OB, you are in a read only mode, and the spacebar will initiate a
scan. Obviously, when the mode is switched over to editing, the spacebar is
transformed back into, well, a spacebar. So, if the keyboarding alterations
being proposed in the new features list do in fact mean a phasing out of the
number pad functionality, I'm not sure what will be done to implement a
convenient scan keystroke. They would be very unwise not to have addressed this
potential problem, but nothing surprises me in the assistive technology field.

2. As regards the file formats: the way I read the language in the features
list, you will be able to open any file created by any version of OB, from
within version 8. You will not however, be able to open .OBX files created in
v8, in older versions of OB. Hope that made sense, and if I am misinterpreting,
somebody please let me know.

I will expound further if any other thoughts barge their way to the front of my
mind.

Take care all,
Scott
