Hi Gary, Well, if the proofreader didn't ask you about the numbers scattered throughout the scan, he or she was obviously unfamiliar with the purpose and use of footnotes. Because of this apparent unfamiliarity, the proofreader thought the numbers were junk characters and removed them. Yes, bookshare does have a copy of your original submission. You can write to Carrie at volunteer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and ask her to put your original rtf file back on the "check out a book" page. You'll need to explain in your note requesting this, that the proofreader removed all numbers for footnotes and you would like the book proofread again by someone who knows how to handle footnotes properly. Another option is to resubmit the book yourself (if you still have a copy) with the letters BSO before the title. In the comments section of the submission form you can note that the copy of the book in the bookshare collection had its footnotes removed and you'd like them handled properly this time around. In my opinion, you'd do best to ask if anyone would like to proofread the book so that you could put a "hold for" on the book. That way you won't get the original proofreader who might do the same thing again. Those are the things I can think of. Good luck! I'm not sure why or why a question didn't show up in my mailbox about the numbers. BookShare should still have the original submit, right? What do you suggest? Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mayrie <mailto:mayrierenae@xxxxxxxxx> ReNae To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, June 25, 2009 11:43 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Book Needs Help Hi Gary, You might first contact the proofreader and ask if he/she perhaps removed them, not understanding their purpose? If that is the case, you can resubmit as a BSO and request a proofreader who is familiar with dealing with footnotes. If the footnote numbers weren't removed by the proofreader, I don't have any guesses. That is odd indeed. Once you know whether it is a proofreading issue, then maybe we can all put our heads together on why the numbers might have been removed by the tools, if indeed that is what removed them. This is a definite problem, and needs to have all of its possible causes examined to decide what to do about it. Good luck! Fred Singer and Dennis T. Avery a while back and it got approved not too far back in the past. I've just taken a look at it and it seems that the footnote numbers were either stripped or erased. To say the least, I'm upset. I would appreciate suggestions as to what to do about this. Thanks.
