I don't know where the Cheri font came from, but your description reminds me of
one of my
first experiences with the Macintosh computer. I was at a shopping mall and
they had these
Macs out for demonstration and that you could win in a drawing (I didn't). I
was typing away,
and playing with the menus and so on. Then seemingly all of a sudden the words
looked like
a roller coaster, some above the line, some under it some taller some shorter
(sounds
familiar, doesn't it). Well, after a while, I figured out that I had set the
font to one called San
Francisco. And that's what it looked like, the hills of San Francisco.
