[baisl] Re: Question for high school librarians - on food in library

Following up on this: when I came to Menlo 14 years ago I wanted to allow
food in the library so the headmaster said we could give it a try. After a
week of watching me clean up after the students he said no more. I don't
mind the food but I hate that they won't clean up after themselves. If they
had a different attitude toward caring for their surroundings I wouldn't
have trouble allowing food, at least snacks.

Same as Cathy, only when my and one other advising group meets in here.

I do allow drinks in "sealed" containers.

I figure they are going to eat in here no matter what we say, so if we
outlaw it, then at least they try to hide it in their backpacks and
hopefully the crumbs will fall in there instead of on the floor.

When I got to this school it was loosely enforced and I found plates and
food everywhere. So I imagine if it were allowed it would become a dumpster
:)

Good luck!

Not at Menlo. The only exclusion to the rule is for the three advisory
groups who meet in the library once a week, and it's sold as a "special
benefit" of meeting in our space.

Dear high school librarian colleagues,

Quick question:  *do you allow students and faculty to eat lunch in
your high school library?*

Thanks,
