The policy here for all classrooms, including the library, is only plain
water. Most students respect the rules, but that doesn't mean we don't find
wrappers and remnants, spill stains on the carpet and gum under the tables.
(There are also paper scraps, abandoned water bottles, and messy chairs to
deal with.)  I don't think we would necessarily object to snacks or bottled
drinks if the students were better about cleaning up after themselves. I
think that's why we ended up with replaceable brown carpet squares as our
flooring choice!

Dear high school librarian colleagues,

Quick question:  *do you allow students and faculty to eat lunch in your
high school library?*

Thanks,
