[AZ-Observing] Re: Why Is M44 The Beehive?

 In 365 Starry Nights (Chet Raymo), he states: 

"The most popular name for this wonderful object in Cancer is the Beehive. 
In 1610, when Galileo turned the first astronomical telescope (of his own
construction) on this fuzzy spot, he was dazzled to view a cluster of tiny
beelike stars." 

I have no idea how accurate this is.
