My star software, SkyMapPro, has a night vision mode which changes Window's screen colors for you with a a couple of mouse clicks. Don't know about Megastar but other programs have night vision mode too. The night vision mode is useless by itself since the screen is still way too bright so you still need a red plastic filter over the screen. The advantage of the night vision mode is that it changes the screen colors to red and black so you can see everything through the red plastic filter sheet.
