Tom, the ASKC (Astronomical Society of Kansas City), of which I was a member, has a 29-inch Coulter mirror in their observatory, Powell Observatory. 300 pounds of glass, plus the mounting cell! It took six of us to remove it for its annual cleaning. That was probably Steve Swayze's Dob, which was not only 40 inches in diameter, but was something like f/5. Bob Summerfield once brought out the 36" "Yard Scope", but I don't think it was used that night. There are even stories passed down through the generations of only Coulter 29" being set up at RTMC over the course of a day. That mirror may have had a chance of reaching the nighttime temperature if it were set up in the Arctic during Winter.
