atw: Re: Word template - conversion from 97 to 2000 problem

Simply cutting and pasting the macros from a 97 template to a converted =
2000
template could work. I'd try copying the macros somewhere safe, wipe =
them
from the 97 template, convert the template, then paste them back in with =
the
VB editor.

I had an 'interesting' episode last year, when I tried to put all the =
office
forms into a standard template (the idea was that the macros attached to =
the
template would automatically complete parts of the form, and it would =
all be
very easy and efficient. Silly me!). I created the template in Word =
2000.
When it was run on an XP machine, XP automatically converted it.
'Converting' the template involved changing all the file references in =
the
template to point to the C drive, or the My Documents folder. There were =
a
couple of other things it did too - don't recall the exact details =
offhand.
In the end, I had to create 2000 and XP versions of the template, and
install them on everyone's machine.

So - hint list:

- open the macro in VB on a 2000 machine
- check that file references are still correct
- print the VB window
- check it against the macro on a 1997 machine: which parts of the code =
have
changed? What to? If any changes in the 2000 version, change them back =
to
the 1997 code (on the 2000 machine) and see if it fixes the problems.

Best of luck!

Regards, Andrea

One of our clients is having problems with a .dot Word template file =
that=20
one of my colleagues (or one of our writers) created for her over two =
years=20
ago. Her IT department suggested it might be because the template was =
for=20
Office 97 whereas they've upgraded to Office 2000 since. Typically, =
they=20
couldn't (or wouldn't) assist.
There is apparently a conversion process within Office 2000, but when =
she=20
tried it, it falls over when it gets to the macros that are in the =
template.

The copy of the template that she has is exactly the same date as the =
one=20
we have in our archive.

I've not used 2000 a lot (personally I still use Word 97) and have never =

converted a template. Has anyone on the list run across a similar =
problem=20
and do you know of a solution?
