Steve,
I'm not a military person, just happen to work in a joint-services IT
network support area. I can't tell from ADFP 103, as all abbreviations for
Rank are presented in the form Group Captain - GPCAPT (Presented in Alex's
post as Gp.Capt.).
I presume ADFP103 abbreviations are likely to be presented with dots
depending on author. So it's probably easiest for you to (as you already
commented) "leave it up to the user to populate the list with their own".

Are all those dotted? For example, it is "MRAAF approves" not "MRAAF.
