I've seen this kind of thing happen with Word docs. There's some kind of
corruption in the file (and sometimes you get to a certain page before it
manifests itself).
One solution (that sometimes works) is to save it as an .RTF file which
retains the formatting while losing the bug. It doesn't always work, but
give it a go.
