Hello Brian, use the copression feature.
Except the default , most of the time, it will do fine.
If you have more than one track recorded, make sure only the track you wish to
compress is selected.
You will see that the db level of the track will go up after compression.
Use the amplification to adjust the level.
Tip: if the volume db level is close to 0 to begin with, lower the track level
a couple of dbs first before you compress it.
Good luck, Mark.

Subject: [audacity4blind] levelling volume
Hi all, I have a file in which the volume is somewhat inconsistent. I obvious
need to compress the audio to bring each speaker to a more consistent level.
Every youtube video concentrates on the visual soundwave. Using NVDA and Window
10, is there a way of finding out the average decibel levl of a file? What is
the simplest way of levelling out the volume of a track? Is compression the
best plugin to use. Obvious I guess I would need to use the amplify and
normalise effects to adjust the final volume. Has anyone donw a tutorial for
using compression? (I know, so many questions). Oh for audio description on
youtube.
Brian
